BEIRUT: Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Awad Asiri slammed
Dar al-Fatwa Sunday, saying the functions of Lebanon's top Sunni religious authority have deteriorated and it no longer represents the voice of moderation.
The number of
DAR's beneficiaries has decreased, based on the Supreme Court's ruling that identified some 6,296 farmers who have agreed in a referendum in 1989, to receive shares of stocks from the Hacienda Luisita, instead of land.
Dar outlined its plan to creditors in Dubai and Kuwait this week.

Dar's fatwa and Sharia supervisory board, after meeting on May 22, said the Wakala, or agency, contract was a valid Islamic contract and asked
Dar to not use Sharia as a defense in any ongoing or future litigation with Blom.
Due to these and other considerations, CBK has decided to appoint a temporary monitor at
Dar beginning on Sept 8 to watch over the company activities, said the Governor.
