Costa Rican Colon
The currency of Costa Rica. It began circulating in 1896, replacing the Costa Rican peso. It was on a crawling peg with respect to the U.S. dollar until 2006. In October of that year, it was allowed to float within a range with a set floor and a changing ceiling. In many places in Costa Rica, the dollar circulates alongside the colon.
