Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster
An officer of the British government responsible for the administration of expenses and rents (and other income) of the Duchy of Lancaster, a large tract of land belonging to the Crown that provides much of the monarch's income. In practice, the chancellor serves as a minister without portfolio in the British cabinet and leaves administration of the duchy to a subordinate. The chancellor is appointed by the monarch on the advice of the prime minister.
