The currency of Brazil between 1986 and 1989. It replaced the second Brazilian cruzeiro at a rate of one cruzado for 1,000 cruzeiro. The cruzado was issued in an attempt to control Brazilian inflation; this attempt failed and the cruzado was replaced by the cruzado novo in 1989.
