Bimetal Plate

Bimetal Plate

In printing, a plate using two metals, copper and either stainless steel or aluminum. A bimetal plate is used to print several thousand copies because it more durable and less susceptible to corrosion than either of the metals on their own. Because of this, bimetal plates are more expensive than other printing plates.

PDI's Prisma bimetal plate consists of a thermally sensitive polymer coating, with an infrared dye sensitive at 1064nm, applied to a copper-plated aluminum substrate.
PDI rates Prisma white-light safe, with "excellent" latent image stability and the same dot quality, durability, low water use, ability to come to color quickly, faster make ready and ink and paper savings as PDI's conventional bimetal plate.
The same chemistry processes the CTP and conventional bimetal plates.
