Bank of New York

The oldest bank in the United States. It was founded in 1784 by Alexander Hamilton, who later became the first Secretary of the Treasury. It merged with the Mellon Financial Corporation in 2007 to form the Bank of New York Mellon.

The Bank of New York Mellon's Aaa rating for deposits and senior debt reflects the high likelihood of systemic backup from the US authorities in the event of financial stress, which, according to the agency, does not apply to its Belgian unit.
