The former currency of Angola. It was introduced in 1958, replacing the Angolan angular as part of a broader effort to unite the currencies used in Portuguese colonies. It was pegged to the Portuguese escudo at a one-to-one ratio. The Angolan kwacha replaced the escudo two years after Angola's independence in 1975.
