Amsterdam Exchange (AEX)
Exchange that comprises the AEX-Effectenbeurs, the AEX-Optiebeurs (formerly the European Options Exchange or EOE) and the AEX-Agrarische Termijnmarkt. AEX-Data Services is the operating company responsible for the dissemination of data from the Amsterdam Exchange via its integrated Mercury 2000 system.
The oldest stock exchange in the world. It was established in 1602 by the Dutch East India Trading Company and operated for centuries as an open outcry exchange for the trade of stocks and bonds. In 1997, it merged with the European Option Exchange to create AEX, which traded derivatives along with stocks and bonds. In 2000, it became part of Euronext.
