A holding company whose subsidiaries provide guarantees and principal and interest payments on debt securities and some asset-backed securities. AMBAC's subsidiaries also provide other financial services, such as swaps and investment advice, mainly to state and local governments in the United States. It was founded in 1971 and is based in New York City.
