An advertisement, especially but not necessarily on television, in which a company encourages viewers to call a toll-free number (which usually starts with 800) to order the product. 800-number promotion is convenient for the customer as the product is nearly always shipped in the mail and payment can be made over the phone. It is especially popular for products on late-night television.
