White Sale A period of time during which a company discounts some of its inventory in order to increase sales when they might otherwise be sluggish. One of the most common times to have a white sale is immediately following Christmas. The idea behind a white sale is to make up in volume of sales what the seller loses in profit margin. White sales are thought to trace their origins to John Wanamaker's department store in Philadelphia in the 1870s. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
