Ways and Means Committee 1. A committee in the U.S. House of Representatives that recommends measures to raise funds for budgets. As such, taxation and tariff bills are referred to the Committee. It is considered one of the most powerful committees in the House. 2. A former Committee of the British House of Commons that performed much the same function. It was abolished in 1967.
