Trend Analysis What Does Trend Analysis Mean? A type of technical analysis that is used in an attempt to predict the future movement of a stock on the basis of past data. Trend analysis is rooted in the idea that historical trading trends can give traders an idea of what may happen in the future. There are three main types of trends: short-term, intermediate-term, and long-term. Investopedia explains Trend Analysis Trend analysis is used to predict a trend such as a bull market so that investors can ride that trend until data suggests a trend reversal (e.g., bull market to bear market).
