Also found in: Dictionary/thesaurus, Medical, Acronyms, Idioms, Encyclopedia, Wikipedia 0.01 sec.
Scalp
To trade for small gains. Scalping normally involves establishing and liquidating a position quickly, usually within the same day.

Scalp
To hold a position for a very short period of time and receive a small gain. For example, a trader who buys and instantly sells a security hoping to profit from the bid-ask spread is said to scalp that security. A scalper hopes that the series of small gains over the course of the trading day will result in a much larger gain.
