Proprietor The owner of an unincorporated business. It especially refers to small businesses and those where the proprietor is the only employee. Significantly, all assets and liabilities of this business belong to the proprietor personally and he/she alone is responsible. Less commonly, a proprietor may also refer to the owner of real estate.
