Plutocracy

A system of governance in which the wealthy rule simply by being wealthy. The term is derogatory and generally is not used officially. An example of a plutocracy is the City of London, in which companies based in the city are allowed to vote in addition to actual residents. The term may also refer to a situation in which money is perceived to have too great a role in the political process.
