A document issued by a government authority giving permission to proceed with some action.In real estate,one may need some or all of the following permits,to name a few:

• Ademolition permit before destroying a structure
• An excavation permit before doing site work
• An environmental permit for erosion and siltation control on land about to be disturbed
• Autility disturbance permit to move utility lines
• Aconstruction permit for construction
• Ahealth permit for an on-site waste management system
• Ahealth permit for removal of asbestos-containing building components
• Ahighway department permit for on-site signage visible from state or federal highways
• An occupancy permit before a structure can be used
