Peseta The former currency of Spain. It was introduced in 1869 when Spain joined the Latin Monetary Union and continued to be the currency even after the union was abolished in 1927. In 1959, Spain joined the Bretton Woods System and pegged the peseta to the U.S. dollar. The peseta was replaced by the euro in 2002. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
