In Cartesian charting, a line that bisects a chart. The x-axis cuts a chart horizontally, while the y-axis cuts it vertically.

By observing the spectra from the star, Pont's team found that the orbital axis of COROT-lb was tilted at an angle of about 77 degrees with respect to the star's spin axis.
Astronomers would have expected the planet's orbital axis to align with the star's rotation axis.
