Octroi

Octroi
A local tax imposed upon a good when it is brought into a municipality for sale or consumption. Octroi taxes were common in medieval Europe and elsewhere, but by the early 21st century were used only in Ethiopia and parts of South Asia. Octrois are strongly associated with tax farming.
