notary public

A person authorized by law to take oaths and witness signatures on documents. In some states, the notary must post a fidelity bond. In some states, notaries must keep complete logs of all documents notarized and the type of identification provided by the party signing the instrument.

Since January 2006, the Department of State has authorized approximately 200 qualified Pennsylvania notaries public to perform notarizations on electronic documents, which are then recorded digitally by participating Pennsylvania county recorders, according to Steve McDonald, Lancaster County recorder of deeds.
Since January 31, the Department of State has authorized approximately 200 qualified Pennsylvania Notaries Public to perform notarizations on electronic documents, which are then recorded digitally by participating Pennsylvania county recorders.
Although not required to take the course, notaries public are encouraged to take it to stay updated on new legislation and other issues that affect their duties.
