A big commercial bank located in a large metropolitan center. Money market center banks play a leading role in trading financial instruments, determining market interest rates, and providing leadership to commercial banks located outside the money centers. Also called money center bank.

A large commercial bank in a major city. Smaller banks use the interest rates and business practices of money market center banks to determine their own. For that reason, money market center banks are considered leaders, at least regionally. They are also called money center banks.
