A large commercial bank in a major city. Smaller banks use the interest rates and business practices of money center banks to influence their own. For that reason, money center banks are considered leaders (at least regionally). They are also called money market center banks.

A big commercial bank located in a large metropolitan center. Money market center banks play a leading role in trading financial instruments, determining market interest rates, and providing leadership to commercial banks located outside the money centers. Also called money center bank.
