The total shares sold short by NYSE members divided by total short sales, which is used to analyze market expectations and bullish or bearish trends.

member short sale ratio
A ratio comparing shares sold short by New York Stock Exchange members with total short sales. Because exchange members are thought to be knowledgeable about market conditions and trends, a high member short sale ratio is considered bearish and a low member short sale ratio is considered bullish.
