light industry

A term usually encountered in the context of zoning regulation,with local statutes or ordinances providing their own definitions. Generally, however, light industry is understood to mean that which is more labor intensive and less machinery intensive than heavy industry. Light industry usually consists of nonpolluting users with moderate energy demands engaged in assembling products,sewing,baking,or cleaning.
