Kurtosis A statistical measure used to describe the distribution of observed data around the mean. Notes: Used generally in the statistical field, it describes trends in charts. A high kurtosis portrays a chart with fat tails and a low even distribution, whereas a low kurtosis portrays a chart with skinny tails and a distribution concentrated towards the mean.It is sometimes referred to as the "volatility of volatility." See also: Skewness Kurtosis Measures the fatness of the tails of a probability distribution. A fat-tailed distribution has higher-than-normal chances of a big positive or negative realization. Kurtosis should not be confused with skewness, which measures the fatness of one tail. Kurtosis is sometimes referred to as the volatility of volatility. How to thank TFD for its existence?
