Hawk An adviser or policymaker who is consistently concerned with inflation. That is, hawks favor maintaining low inflation over promoting high economic growth. As a result, hawks tend to prefer central banks to set relatively high interest rates. The term "hawk" may apply to persons who are concerned with another economic policy (e.g. deficit hawk), but the term, by itself, usually refers to an inflation hawk.
