ghosting

Also found in: Dictionary/thesaurus, Medical, Idioms, Encyclopedia, Wikipedia, Hutchinson 0.04 sec.
Ghosting
An illegal practice whereby two or more market makers collectively attempt to influence and change the price of a stock. It is used by corrupt companies to affect stock prices so they can profit from the price movement.

Notes:
This practice is illegal because market makers are required by law to act in competition with each other. Ghosting is termed as such because, like a false image or a ghost, collusion and manipulation among market makers is difficult to detect. In developed markets, the consequences of ghosting can be severe.

Ghosting
The illegal practice that one firm drives a stock's price higher or lower, while other conspiring firms follow its lead to influence up the price of the stock.

ghosting
Illegal collusion among market makers to manipulate the market price of a stock.
