Elves

A term the host uses to refer to guests on the PBS television show, "Wall Street Week", who are technical analysts attempting to predict the direction of stock prices over the next six months.

Elves

The analysts who appeared on the television show Wall Street Week, which aired between 1970 and 2005. The elves used technical analysis to predict future price movements in the stock market. They operated two indices using technical indicators; the Wall Street Week Index was used between 1970 and 1989 and was well regarded for its usefulness. The Elves Index, used between 1989 and 2001, was noted more for its uses as a contrarian index; at least one analyst suggested one should do the opposite of what the Elves Index advised. The term "elf" itself was a playful reference to the Gnomes of Zurich.
