Ex

Shorthand indicating that a security is being traded without something attached to it. The term is most common when that "something" is an extra that would usually be attached to the security but is not. See also: Ex-dividend, Ex-right, Ex-warrant.

ex

Used in combination to refer to a security that trades without something, such as a dividend, warrant, or some other distribution. For example, when a stock trades ex-dividend, it trades without the right to receive the next dividend payment.
