Delayed Settlement

    0.01 sec.
Delayed Settlement
A situation in which a buyer or, more commonly, his/her broker, does not receive delivery of the securities he/she bought by the settlement date. A delayed settlement may or may not be by mutual consent of the counterparties to the transaction. A seller may deliberately arrange a delayed settlement so the securities remain on his/her records until a certain event, such as the ex-dividend date, has passed. See also Fail to deliver, Aged fail.

delayed settlement
The transfer of a security or cash at a date beyond the usual settlement date. A seller may prefer delayed settlement in order to be listed on a firm's books on the record date for a dividend.

Some of the observed differences in spatfall timing between our study and Coe's (1932a) study, for example settlement in Aqua Hedionda Lagoon in November and December 2005, may also simply be attributable to delayed settlement in larvae, which somehow were retained within the estuary until they found a suitable settlement habitat.
