COP The ISO 4217 currency code for Colombian Peso.
COP 1. ISO 4217 code for the Colombian peso. Instituted in 1837, it was pegged to the U.S. dollar for a time. Since 1955, however, the peso has floated. It has gradually deteriorated in value since. 2. Certificate of Participation. An investment in which the investor purchases the right to a share of a municipality's or government entity's lease revenues instead of a bond secured by those revenues. Government entities issue COPs to avoid limitations on debt legally placed upon them. This is roughly a government entity's equivalent to accounts receivable financing. In the United States, the organizations issuing or guaranteeing COPs are Ginnie Mae, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and Sallie Mae. They are also called participation certificates or PCs. Among Bill Clinton's campaign promises in 1992 was to put 100,000 new cops on America's streets by the end of the decade. Everyone who went through the 12-week program reached their goal, including one woman who lost about 80 pounds, said Maurice Lewitt, Nu-Med's chairman and chief executive officer, who had gone to the Diet Cops on his own to lose "about 1,200 pounds. From Mount McKinley in Alaska to Mount Marcy in New York, more than 200 law enforcement officers from more than 80 different agencies nationwide will participate in the Cops on Top Summit for Heroes on Saturday, May 20, simultaneously climbing to the highest peaks in all 50 states to honor their comrades who have been killed in the line of duty. |
