A system of artificially created marshy-type areas of vegetation with frequent flooding, designed to treat wastewater through natural biological processes. The Environmental Protection Agency is a strong proponent of this method of cleaning water and has many additional resources on its Web site at www.epa.gov;search on “constructed wetlands.”
