Automated teller machine (ATM) Computer-controlled terminal located on the premises of financial institutions or elsewhere, though which customers may make deposits, withdrawals or other transactions as they would through a bank teller. Other terms sometimes used to describe such terminals are customer-bank communications terminal (CBCT) and remote service unit (RSU). A SOPHISTICATED card-skimming device could have been recording details of cash machine customers for two weeks before it was found, police have said. It followed an appeal by the Daily Post and the businesses and shoppers of Dane Court Shopping Centre for a cash machine and free parking. On Christmas Eve 2005, a gang smashed their way into a Barclays bank in Crosby and stole a cash machine which had been restocked for last minute Christmas shopping. |
