Across the board Movement or trend in the stock market that causes all stocks in all sectors to move in the same direction. Across the Board Relating to or applying to a situation in which most or all members of a group behave the same way. This especially applies to a situation in which most securities on an exchange move in the same direction. For example, one might say, "Stocks are down across the board," meaning that the predominant market movement is downward.
