Assurance

A chiefly British term for insurance.

assurance

a contractual saving arrangement whereby a person pays premiums at regular intervals to an INSURANCE COMPANY in return for a sum of money to be received at a later date. With life assurance a lump sum payment and/or annuity becomes due to the dependants of the person assured. With endowment assurance a lump sum payment and/or annuity is payable to the person assured at an agreed future date.
