Allonge

In countries operating under the Code Napoleon, an addendum to a contract or other transaction on which a party affixes his/her signature. The allonge often contains a summary of what the contract or transaction does, and a signature on the allonge indicates agreement to the contract. It was formerly often added to a bill of exchange, but this has become less common as bills of exchange have themselves become less common. It was never common in Anglo-American jurisdictions because, in common law, signing the contract itself is considered consent.
