After-Sales Service

Any assistance a seller provides a buyer after a good or service is sold. For example, a car dealer may offer free or discounted service on a car for a year after purchase. Likewise, a computer manufacturer may offer free technical support to customers. After-sales services are important to building brand loyalty and generating repeat customers.

after-sales service

back-up services and facilities provided by the suppliers of goods and services to their customers. After-sales service can include free maintenance and repairs, a telephone service for dealing with customers' queries, and an express PARTS delivery service. An after-sales service is an important part of the MARKETING MIX, serving to enhance customer loyalty and provide valuable feedback about its goods and services. See CUSTOMER SERVICES, GUARANTEE, REPLACEMENT PARTS.

after-sales service

the provision of back-up facilities by a supplier or his agent to a customer after he has purchased the product. After-sales service includes the replacement of faulty products or parts and the repair and maintenance of the product on a regular basis. These services are often provided free of charge for a limited period of time through formal guarantees of product quality and performance, and thereafter, for a modest fee, as a means of securing continuing customer goodwill. After-sales service is thus an important part of competitive strategy. See PRODUCT DIFFERENTIATION.
