Abstract of Title

In real estate, a brief history of the ownership of a piece of property. That is, the abstract of title has a summary of all the previous owners and dates of sale. It also lists any potential, conflicting claims to the property. See also: Clear title.

Synopsis of all prior owners and important claimants to property, with the date and origin of their rights and date and manner of termination, together with all current owners, lienholders, easements, or other such claims against the property.
