The long boards go between the short boards with the grooves facing up and the frame-rest
rabbets on the long boards facing toward the inside of the box.
STEP 17: After the glue has cured, square up the corners of the screen groove and the screen stop
rabbet. Use a 1/8-inch chisel for the groove and a fine-toothed saw and wider chisel to cut the
rabbet.
Rabbet 1 and
rabbet 2 joints were the weakest but not significantly different from each other.
This is the quick and easy way to make a
rabbet cut along the top edges of bottom piece and the bottom inside edges of the sides, front, and back, instead of taking the time to set up a dado blade.
I like to use
rabbet joints, since they're a little stronger but still easy to cut.
The "goal" box was then finished with a black backing board, cut 20 1/4 by 24 1/2 inches to fit into the back
rabbet of the frame.
The processing components include first and second pairs of chipper canter units with novel chipper heads, a pair of
rabbet units in which each has a pair of cutter heads on concentric telescopic shafts and power-driven rolls for off-feeding pieces of lumber of differing widths.
When nailing the top corners of the supers, be sure to place the corner nail down low enough so that it does not go into the
rabbet joint instead of the wood itself.
The silver lace trim needed to line the underside of the
rabbet so that the scalloped edge would peak out onto the backing board.
Wood frames should use
rabbet lined with a barrier.
Run a bead of yellow glue in each
rabbet, fit the front end in place, and secure it with three finishing nails driven through the sides.
Bernkopf ripped a 1/2- by 3/4-inch
rabbet along the inside edge of each upright, then screwed the plywood panels in place.
