There's even an area in Asia where it's so hard for one man to provide for a household that they practise polyandry. That's the opposite of a harem - wives are allowed more than one husband.
Mahmoud Ahmed Taha Mahmoud explains the rule of the law in the cases of adultery (by one of the spouses), the abandonment of the wife, polygamy - in the sense of polyandry and polygyny, illicit cohabitation (adultery), stealing by one spouse from the other.
But with the surplus of males, I'm curious if there's going to be some informal type of polyandry where two brothers share a wife.
