Forwarder

A company that arranges transportation services for importers and exporters. A forwarder prepares the appropriate documents, contacts and arranges services from the companies that actually transport goods, and handles insurance matters. In other words, a forwarder handles the large number of details associated with international transportation so the importer and/or exporter do not have to do so themselves. It is also called a freight forwarder. See also: NVOCC.

a firm which specializes in the physical movement of goods in transit, arranging the collection of goods from factory, depot, etc., and delivering them direct to the customer in the case of domestic consignments, and to seaports, airports, etc. in the case of exported goods. In the latter case the forwarder also handles the documentation required by the customs authorities and the booking arrangements. See EXPORTING.
