employment agency

a business which acts as an AGENT on behalf of firms seeking employees and of persons seeking work. Employment agencies maintain lists of job vacancies notified by prospective employers and details of persons seeking work, and match up the two. In addition, they may advertise jobs on behalf of employers and, where instructed, act as recruitment agents by interviewing and shortlisting job applicants.
