disequilibrium

a situation where a state of EQUILIBRIUM has not been attained or, having been attained, ceases to be maintained. If there is a natural tendency towards equilibrium, the system is said to be stable. If the reverse is true, the system is said to be unstable. See COBWEB THEOREM, DYNAMIC ANALYSIS.
