Comparison of erich arch bar versus embrasure wires for intraoperative intermaxillary fixation in mandibular fractures.
In the present study 106 (40.30%) patients were treated by open reduction and internal fixation with miniplates; while 101 (38.40%) patients were treated via closed reduction with arch bar and eyelets.
However another study showed that out of the 674 patients with mandibular fractures, 177 patients were treated by maxillomandibular fixation (MMF) with elastics and arch bars; 08 with arch bars only (without IMF); 278 with ORIF and MMF; 7 with ORIF and arch bar without MMF; and 204 with ORIF only14.
After the placement of bimaxillary arch bars, each fracture was exposed with intraoral incision.
Methods of achieving Maxillomandibular fixation was either through eyelets alone or arch bars alone or a combination of both.
