The SOA published an updated payout
annuity table in 2012 called the 2012 Individual Annuity Mortality Table, or IAM Table for short.
Specifically, DU changed its health mortality table from the 1971 to the 1983 Group
Annuity Table. The disabled mortality table changed from the 1956 Railroad Board Disabled Mortality table to the 1977 Railroad Board Disabled Mortality table.
The resulting number is a present value multiplier found on the
annuity table. The multiplier is located on the row representing the number of years the cash flows will last.
Over the long term, it is the larger companies that will be more affected by the new
annuity table because they, rather than smaller companies, are spending time and effort on the payout business.
This amount is determined as follows using the present value factor from a standard
annuity table for 12% and 24 quarters, and the quarterly cash flow stream of $2,952.37.
