Unidade Real de Valor

An accounting currency used in Brazil in 1994. It was pegged to the U.S. dollar at par, as well as to three price indices. Prices were expressed in URV even though the cruzeiro real, which suffered from hyperinflation, continued to circulate. It was used to adjust people in Brazil to a stable currency in anticipation of the introduction of the Brazilian real later the same year.
