Rule NMS

An SEC rule that requires exchanges to adopt policies to prevent trading through, which is the practice of trading a security on a given exchange when a better price is available on a different exchange. It mandates most electronic orders to buy or sell a security to be sent to the exchange with the best price for that security. It became effective in 2004.
