Severe
leukemoid reaction in a preterm infant with congenital Cytomegalovirus infection.
A recent report of using a commercially available antibody discussed establishing normal LAP levels for individual hematology laboratories (7) The current study expanded on the use of a commercial primary antibody for clinical use by exploring different gating strategies, verifying assay conditions, and testing on new cases of CML or
leukemoid reaction. A "LAP Index" of % positive x Median Fluorescent Intensity (MFI) was used after statistical analysis showed significant differences in this index between expected normal, high, and low LAP scores.
Finding in them greater proportion of atelectasis (OR 21, 95% CI 4.47-101.6), apnea (OR 11.5, 95% CI 3.26-40.8), retractions (OR 5.6, 95% CI 1.80-17.7),
leukemoid reaction (OR 4, 95% CI 1.28-12.2), pneumonia (OR 3.7, 95% CI 1.05-13), and bronchospasm (OR 3.6, 95% CI 1.03-16.8) as compared to the group of children who did not require intensive care.
Paraneoplastic
leukemoid reaction as marker for transitional cell carcinoma recurrence.
Clinical laboratory findings in three of the patients included
leukemoid reaction in all three, hemoconcentration in two, and thrombocytopenia in two.
