Half Eagle

The first gold coin the United States authorized. It was minted between 1795 and 1929 and was worth $5.

A US half eagle $5 piece will bring approx pounds 200 at auction.
Of particular interest are gold pieces known as quarter eagles and half eagles, which carried face values of EUR2.50 and EUR5.
By 1806, according to a report submitted to Congress by President Thomas Jefferson, it had coined a total of $4,749,343, including "Eagles, Half Eagles, Quarter Eagles, Dollars, Half Dollars, Quarter Dollars, Dimes, Half Dimes, Cents and Half Cents." Those coins have long since become collectors' items.
