Equatorial Guinean Ekwele

The former currency of Equatorial Guinea. It was introduced in 1975, seven years after the country's independence. Until 1979, it was spelled ekuele. After the "ekwele" spelling was adopted, its plural became bipkwele. In 1985, it was replaced by the CFA franc at a rate of four bipkwele to one franc.
